The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
