Peak Pizza? Domino's Pizza Leader Exits After Shift Into Fried Chicken.

The boss of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who proposed the United Kingdom might have reached pizza saturation while broadening the company into chicken products has been removed after disagreements with its governing body.

Executive Transition

Andrew Rennie is exiting after just two years in charge, and will be succeeded on an acting basis by the organization's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant seeks a new leader.

The outgoing executive, who worked for Domino's for over 20 years, had aimed to shift Britain's leading pizza delivery company towards chicken offerings, stating in a recent interview there was not “significant expansion” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He noted poultry was the quickest rising protein in the globe.

Governance Disagreements

Sources suggest that there was tension between Rennie and the directors over his strategy and direction, although Domino's announcement said he was departing “through mutual consent”.

Recent Brand Introduction

In the autumn, the chain launched its chicken-focused brand – which Rennie described as a “significant new phase” for the company – and is piloting it in select stores in the north-west of England and Northern Ireland.

While the business is still going to roll it out across its extensive network in 2026 as intended, it regards fried chicken as a supplement for its main pizza offerings.

Leadership Statement

Bull, the Domino's chairman, said: “We are confident that there are a number of opportunities to enhance value and profitability in the main pizza segment. We are concentrating on selecting the suitable leader to lead the systematic rollout of that expansion plan.”

Industry Difficulties

Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has 13 million customers in the British Isles, said orders declined by one and a half percent in the latest quarter. In the summer, it warned that the food delivery sector had “intensified” as it blamed reduced spending in the run-up to the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in half-year profits.

Rival chains are also struggling. Another major chain disclosed the shutting of multiple locations a recently, after the company behind its UK venues entered insolvency.

Health Initiatives

Trying to keep up with consumer trends towards healthier eating, the company has launched light options, such as its light base line of pizzas below 400 kcal as well as meat-free and wheat-free pizzas. A large pepperoni pizza has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has 2,171, while a individual has 909 kcal.

Acting Leadership

Frampton has been with the company since 2021, and previously worked for the betting firm a well-known operator. It is thought that she does not want to occupy the chief executive role permanently.

She commented: “We have a number of current expansion and performance initiatives that we will be concentrating on executing at speed.”

Frampton noted these involved ongoing development on the company's logistics network and product development, and its loyalty scheme.

Domino's is also in need of a permanent finance director until March 16, when Andy Andrea starts from the Irish cider and beer maker C&C Group. Until then, Richard Snow serves as temporary CFO.
