Grief as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the City of Johannesburg.
A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was accosted by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before escaping on foot.
The reason of the attack has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, as per the official statement.
How It Happened
Authorities indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a location near the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the property overseeing the setup of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the victim was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," authorities said.
CCTV footage reportedly captured a man with dreadlocks and clad in what appeared to be a guard's attire shooting on Stock before running away.
The DJ sought to escape after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the assault.
Key evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the scene.

Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.
"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the attack, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to determine their destination," added an official.

His sister, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to process his death.
"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a voice for many people. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were ready to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."
